The Nevada City Classic races down Broad Street in 2009

Starting in Nevada City, the Tour will proceed pass through downtown Grass Valley, before passing Alta Sierra, and exiting Nevada County on the way to Auburn and Sacramento.

The selection of Nevada City as the starting location for the Tour in part is due to the fact that the city has hosted the Nevada City Classic cycling event since 1961. Acknowledged as both the longest running cycling event on the West Coast and the second oldest race in the USA, the 2009 event was won by none other than Lance Armstrong.
