Nevada County, Grass Valley and Nevada City

Nevada County lies to the east of Sacramento in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The California Gold Rush of the 1840s happened in Grass Valley, Nevada City, and the surrounding areas. Evidence of gold mining is all around the area in the form of mining museums and state parks, mining machinery preserved in and around the towns, and in the street names. Although the mining industry has all but disappeared from the area, Nevada County continues to prosper due to high technology industries and tourism.

People like the quality of life in western Nevada County, with low rates of crime, an excellent school system and easy access to the recreational opportunities in the Sierra nevada including the ski areas at Lake Tahoe, and Lake Tahoe itself.
